Food has always been my go-to place; I love eating and exploring different good foods. I ate when I was hungry, happy, angry or sad, but I was never a part of the preparation process. The drive for cooking was definitely a hidden desire I stumbled upon in college. I unintentionally made dishes for friends and family and they loved it.

As my love for food and cooking grew, I started watching Youtube videos of some highly notable chefs like Gordon Ramsay, Christina Tosi, and Chef Stone, and I tried out a lot of recipes. During the pandemic, I registered for a cooking show (Naija chefs hub). I got selected after the audition and afterwards I got to meet an amazing woman, Michellee Fox. I met her on Instagram and after some chats and calls we actually became very close. She is an Brazilian American who is a farmer, a chef, and the business development manager of Food Bay TV. She tutored me, became my mentor, and played a huge role in the launch of my food business, “Tastie Treats".”

“Tastie Treats” is a breakfast and lunch food outlet. The focus is driven towards achieving some of the sustainable development goals. We go beyond making food, and ensure that food reaches the minorities who have little or no access to affordable and healthy food. To the locals, food is supplied within their everyday reach. To students and every day workers, food is delivered to them at their comfort as often as they need it. We may not be that big but we sure are making a difference. Our day to day products vary from sandwiches of various kinds, wraps, salads, coleslaws, milkshakes, tea and coffee.

One thing food start-up owners rarely talk about is how terrifying the thought of starting a business is with no support and little assurance of it thriving. When it comes to being a student and a business owner, it’s another ball game entirely. The issue of balancing, organization and time management comes into view and becomes a problem. When that student is a female, it’s a total struggle! She battles a lot with discrimination and cultural and societal restrictions towards female business owners. Getting approvals regarding funds and investors becomes difficult and most times is impossible.

I wouldn't say there wasn’t a time I thought of giving up, but I found so much joy knowing that every product I make puts a smile on peoples faces daily. That was it for me! I made Tastie Treats a go to place for many. Food has become a go to place for all. A place where the young, old, big and the small could go and find solace.
